Gujarat: Bhupendra Patel’s new Cabinet takes oath

Newly sworn-in Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s new Cabinet took oath at the Raj Bhawan in Gandhinagar on Thursday. This comes at a time when the BJP has been fighting protests by several ministers of the outgoing government who were informed that they might not be a neighborhood of the new council of ministers.

Meanwhile, Nimaben Acharya, an MLA from Bhuj, has been named the protem speaker of the Legislative Assembly, following the resignation of Rajendra Trivedi hours ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.


Vijay Rupani had resigned without protest and Bhupendra Patel had taken charge with none opposition earlier in the week . the cupboard formation was alleged to happen on Wednesday but reports said several senior BJP MLAs were unwilling to renounce their posts.

Amid power tussle between the old ministers and therefore the new names that were being considered, Bhupendra Patel decided to drop all ministers of the Vijay Rupani government and obtain an altogether fresh Cabinet. Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi resigned from the Assembly to hitch the cupboard and took oath on Thursday. The removal of Nitin Patel, the previous deputy chief minister, from the cupboard comes as surprise as he was widely alleged to be the chief minister after Rupani resigned.
